Meet Samantha Gatewood, Senior Level Nurse Injector at IVme

Samantha Gatewood has her BSN from Resurrection University in Chicago. In 2018, Samantha returned to the University of Cincinnati to obtain her Master of Science in Nursing, MSN, and Family Nurse Practitioner, FNP-C. She was a labor and delivery nurse for three years at Northwestern Hospital before joining a plastic surgery practice where she honed her aesthetic nursing skills. She currently splits her time between IVme and Rush University Medical Center.

As a Senior Level Nurse Injector at IVme, Samantha works with men and women ranging in age from 25 to 65 and specializes in injecting Dysport®, BOTOX®, JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® to help minimize fine lines and wrinkles, as well as smooth, augment and correct lips, cheeks and lower face. Samantha’s patients describe her as honest, thorough and a perfectionist. She has a classic and sophisticated approach to injectables, tailoring each patient’s injections to their goals based on their facial structure, anatomy and natural facial movement. She often receives emails, texts and photos from patients that are delighted with their results. Patient interaction and experiencing their joy and happiness with the results of her work is what she finds most rewarding about her job at IVme.

Samantha considers herself to be an artist and a master at sculpting her patients’ faces. A patient’s face is the canvas and Samantha uses her experience and tools of the trade to rejuvenate and enhance each unique canvas. She has a keen eye and has been practicing aesthetics for over 7 years. Her patients are 100% referral and extremely loyal. She attributes this to her process and the hundreds of satisfied patients she has treated. During the consultation process, she engages each patient in a candid conversation about what is bothering them about their face. She doesn’t believe in telling them what they need, instead, she focuses on their starting point and the “why” of what they want. As they chat, she reads their face – studying their mouth, eyebrows, chin, facial structure and facial movement. “The IVme injection/education sheet is a great tool to show the different muscles in your face and to explain why your face looks the way it does and what will happen when I inject you or why I shouldn’t inject you in a certain spot. It helps the patient understand how we are going to attain their desired goal with a specific plan of action and budget. I’m a strong believer in knowledge is power and that’s why I spend a lot of time on patient education. Once my patient understands what can or can’t be done, we’re on the same page for their treatment plan. It’s about building relationships, having their trust and managing expectations. I’ve had new patients come in to see me with a picture of a celebrity or model and tell me that is the look they want. I have to be honest and be the voice of reason and let the patient know what they want isn’t possible, because they don’t have the anatomy/facial structure to create that look. The analogy is if you have super fine, thin hair and go to your hairstylist with a photo of women with a thick, full mane of hair. Your hairstylist can never create that look for you – you have to work with what you have and enhance that look.”

When it comes to treating men with injectables, Samantha says: “I emphasize the importance of looking youthful, but age appropriate and natural. Men need to have lines and expression in their faces – these features connote success and experience in the business world. No one wants to work with or trusts someone that looks fake and frozen.”

Samantha’s favorite IVme treatment

Once a month Samantha gets the Beauty Plus IV, which includes hydrating fluids plus vitamins and minerals including biotin, Vitamin C, and the anti-aging warrior, glutathione.  “Many people love it for the glow and help with skin brightening; I love it because it keeps my nails and skin healthy.” Samantha also recommends the PCA Blemish Control Bar that IVme now sells at all its locations – it’s a must have, because it treats skin congestion, and leaves your skin feeling soft and rejuvenated. It can be used on your face and your body – wherever you have trouble spots.
