This time of year is filled with festive parties and family gatherings. Whether you’re a guest or opening your home, you’ll be surrounded with the holiday cheer of your colleagues, friends and family these next couple of months…and the germs they bring with them.

I know it’s tough to think about germs when you’re “in the spirit,” but November and December are peak flu season and the more people you’re around, the higher chance you have of getting the virus. Adults are contagious one to two days before getting symptoms and up to seven days after becoming ill. This means that people can spread the influenza virus, or flu, before even knowing they’re infected.

The good news is you don’t need to hideout at home and skip the parties, that is unless you need an excuse to avoid Aunt Martha. The key to fighting off the flu is taking proper preventative measures. Simple things like regularly washing your hands make a huge difference. The flu virus can stay on surfaces for up to six hours, so it’s very easy to transmit. Think about it, how often do you go a few hours without washing your hands after opening a door or riding the CTA and then, say, touching your eye?

Other preventative measures include getting a flu shot, eating well, exercising and staying hydrated. However, if you’re like 75% of Americans who don’t drink enough water, hydration therapy could be a great option for you.

At IVme, we offer a special Cold+ Flu IV hydration treatment where you’re administered an IV, just like you’d get at the hospital, that includes a high dose of vitamin C. This treatment is a great addition to the other preventative measures mentioned above. It boosts your energy and knocks out the virus before it takes hold. If you’ve already got the flu, I recommend two IV treatments within 24 to 48 hours. Our receptionist will make sure you get 50% off the second visit.

IV hydration delivers fluids and vitamins directly to your bloodstream, which means you’re able to almost immediately absorb 100% of these nutrients and take larger quantities of them. For example, with Vitamin C, you can only take 5 grams by mouth because it needs to break down in your stomach and liver. But, through an IV, we can administer 50-75 grams of vitamin C. This high dosage gets to work in your system right away, which is great news for your work, social and family commitments.

If you’re someone who’s afraid of needles, have peace in knowing our nurses and medics are highly experienced and very gentle. We also have a spray that we use to make the procedure completely pain-free.

Don’t let the flu bug hold you back this holiday season; come in and see us at either location today.
