Fueling Up Restaurant Staff with IV Hydration

Opening, running and working a restaurant is hard work. Twenty-hour work days are not unusual. How do I know? I’ve closely followed two restauranteurs who have been regular IVme patients since we opened in 2012. Why IV Hydration Therapy?

IV Hydration Therapy—or hydration therapy—is an easy way to ensure you’re consuming enough fluids to keep you hydrated and operating at optimum health. Our therapy treatments intravenously deliver fluids, medications, vitamins and other nutritional supplements directly into your bloodstream. Your IV solution is ultimately tailored to your symptoms and health goals and could include one or a combination of these: B12, B complex, Glutathione, Vitamin C, plus meds such as Zofran for pain or Toradol for nausea.

As far as, “how does it work”, IV hydration delivers fluids and vitamins directly to your bloodstream, which means you’re able to almost immediately absorb 100% of the fluids and nutrients and take larger quantities of them. For example, with Vitamin C, you can only take 5 grams by mouth because it needs to break down in your stomach and liver. But, through an IV, 50-75 grams of vitamin C could be administered if appropriate. This high dosage gets to work in your system right away, immediately alleviating the symptoms of dehydration and leaving you feeling energized and focused.

You’ll feel the benefits of the IV for 1 to 2 days, but it can also reboot your system which means your immune system is stronger and could prevent illnesses which could keep you down for weeks.

Why would I get an IV instead of drinking water?

You could guzzle water if you have the time and don’t mind water sloshing around in your stomach for hours. Many of our IV patients opt for an IV instead of guzzling water because they don’t have hours or days to rest and recover; they need to be at their best immediately to keep pace with their demanding schedules.

What do I recommend for you and your staff?

  • Take care of yourself. Sip water or a low-sugar sports drink throughout the day, at least the recommended amount (divide your weight in half, drink that amount in ounces; if you are 200 lbs, you should drink about 100 ounces a day) and a little more if it’s hot or you’re physically active. 
  • If you fall behind on your fluid intake and start to experience mild symptoms of dehydration – lack of focus, headache, tiredness – come in for an IV. 
  • If you’re approaching an exceptionally demanding event, such as a festival or restaurant opening, you could get an IV a day or two before and the day after to help your body recover and maintain its natural levels of fluids, vitamins and nutrients.
