Radiant skin with IVme VI Peel

When it comes to skin treatments, the term “peel” can sound intimidating, conjuring images of discomfort and sunburned skin. However, the Vitality Institute VIPeel at IVme offers a refreshing departure from this perception: one of tightened, brightened skin instead.

In this blog, we’ll delve into the details of the VI Peel with IVme’s Lead Aesthetician Keri Gardiner, who provides a comprehensive understanding of the treatment. With nearly 25 years of experience, Keri provides expert insight into the benefits, process, aftercare and overall customer experience associated with the VI Peel. By the end, you will have all of the information you need to feel confident in choosing this transformative treatment for healthier and more vibrant skin.

What is a skin care peel?

People often get scared when they hear “chemical peel” because of what they’ve seen on Sex in the City. They think they’re going to look burned and red, and I’m happy to share that the truth is far from that! A “peel” is actually a form of exfoliation. When we talk about exfoliation, there are different types: mechanical, chemical and physical (like a scrub). The VI Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that works by removing the first layer of skin, or the epidermis, and eliminating dead skin cells. This process reveals more vibrant and healthier skin underneath.

What is the client experience for the VI Peel?

This treatment does require a pre-screening questionnaire to be completed prior to booking, which you can do when you call to schedule your appointment. We really just want to ensure the client is not pregnant or breastfeeding, doesn’t have allergies to ingredients in the peel, isn’t prone to cold sores and doesn’t have a trip planned to a beach. We want people to stay out of the direct sun for at least two weeks after this treatment.

Once we get started, it’s actually a fairly quick process. The treatment begins with the application of the peel, and unlike other peels, it is self-neutralizing. This means that after the initial application, the patient can leave the clinic with the peel on their face and wash it off at home, strictly adhering to the provided instructions. We provide our clients with post-peel towelettes that have skin brightening, cell turnover and anti-inflammatory properties and really enhance the benefits of the treatment.

Upon application, the peel may give a slight tingling or spicy sensation, but there is no pain associated with the treatment. This is a notable advantage of the VI Peel, as many other peels on the market can be uncomfortable.

VI Peel aftercare instructions

Immediately after the treatment, clients may notice that their skin looks a little darker or bronzed–almost like a bad spray tan. This is totally normal and actually a good sign, as it indicates that the peel is working. After washing off the peel in about four hours, the orange/bronze color will go away. The next day, the skin might feel dry and start to peel a few days later, so hydration is really important. The first area to start peeling is usually around the mouth, as we tend to move that area the most. The flaking will subside within about five days, revealing fresh and rejuvenated skin. Occasionally, there might be intense itching on the night of the peel, which can be managed with an over-the-counter antihistamine such as Benadryl.

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to follow the aftercare instructions; these help support the skin’s healing process and maintain the desired results. And speaking of results, people do see results right away. Clients may not notice immediately because they look at themselves every day, but I take pictures along the way to document the progress and those pictures speak for themselves. Remember, the VI Peel is not a quick fix but rather a crucial first step toward achieving fresh, healthy and radiant skin that lasts.

Clients return to the clinic after two weeks for a consultation and a DiamondGlow facial, where we’ll continue the exfoliation process and hydrate the skin. We will take photos to document the progress and determine the next step.

The VI Peel difference

One of the things that attracted me to the VI Peel is that it’s marketed as “the first pain-free peel.” The VIPeel uses a proprietary blend of acids, one of which is phenol acid, which works as a numbing agent and vasoconstrictor. This ensures that the treatment is comfortable and virtually pain-free.

Another thing I love about the VI Peel is that it’s a skin-resurfacing chemical peel that stimulates collagen and increases cellular turnover; these two things together reveal smoother and more radiant skin. Unlike other peels, the VI Peel’s blend of acids is specifically designed to treat all skin concerns, including sun damage, hyperpigmentation, melasma, active acne, acne scarring, rosacea and signs of aging.

How many VI Peels should I do?

Each individual’s skin is unique, and therefore we create treatment plans that are customized to cater to specific needs. For severe acne cases, we may do a series of three to four peels with a DiamondGlow facial in between. After the initial treatment plan is completed, peels are scheduled quarterly. The ultimate goal is to create personalized treatment plans that deliver optimal results and address individual concerns effectively.

I want to also note that the VI Peel is a treatment that’s suitable for all skin types and colors. This is particularly important for individuals with darker skin tones, as some peels may cause hyperpigmentation. The VI Peel’s safety profile is bolstered by the fact that it was developed by an MD who specialized in ethnic skin and created the treatment for her daughter, who was struggling with acne.
