Make the most of your time with our mobile IV service
If you’re like me, you know life is short. We all learn that lesson in different, private experiences. I’ve always pushed to get the most out of every hour, every day. Balancing family, financial obligations and health while pursuing my dreams is difficult. When I’m run down or sick, I miss out on some valuable hours. In college it set me back in my football training, in med school it set me back with my studies. These days it sets me back from growing my business and caring for my employees and patients.
It was during med school when I experienced first-hand the power of intravenous hydration.
One day during my residency, I was visibly ill and an anesthesiologist took notice. He hooked me up to an IV with hydrating fluids and vitamins. I immediately felt better and was able to complete my rounds. I was astounded at how quickly I improved and immediately began researching how to bring this therapy to more people.I teamed up with Dr. Scott Yilk and Gina Werner, RN to combine our emergency room experience, knowledge and expertise and open Chicago’s first IV hydration center. Our goal was simple: to help people feel their best every day.

Work, Play, and Hydrate: Why Proper Hydration Requires More Than Just Water
Discover the value of proper hydration beyond water. Learn more about the benefits of hydration IV therapy, how it supports health, and when it’s essential. Stay hydrated, stay healthy!
Hydration is an essential part of our daily lives. We typically hear that we must consume eight glasses of water daily. But did you understand that correct hydration requires more than just water? This post will describe why. We will look at the importance of hydration, how it affects work and play, and why approaches like IV hydration can be helpful.
Hydration is important
Water makes up about 60% of our body weight. It is critical for a variety of bodily functions. Hydration helps control body temperature levels, keep joints lubed, and transport nutrients to cells. It also aids in the elimination of waste from the body. We become dehydrated when we don’t drink enough fluids. Dehydration can trigger headaches, dizziness, and tiredness. It can even lead to significant health issues in severe cases.
Hydration in Life at Work
When we are at work, it is easy to forget to drink water. We get busy with jobs, conferences, and due dates. However, staying hydrated is essential for performance. Correct hydration helps enhance concentration and memory. It keeps our energy levels steady, preventing that afternoon downturn. Well-hydrated, we can carry out tasks much better and feel more alert.
During Play
Hydration is crucial whether you are playing sports, hiking, or simply delighting in a day at the park. Exercises make us sweat, which means we lose water and electrolytes. There may need to be more than just drinking water alone to replace what we lose. This is why professional athletes typically drink sports drinks that contain electrolytes. Remaining hydrated helps keep our muscles working correctly and avoids cramps. It likewise helps us recover quicker after exercise.
Why Water Alone Might Not Suffice
While water is necessary, it may not constantly suffice to keep us completely hydrated. Here are a few reasons why:
Loss of Electrolytes
When we sweat, we lose water and electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Electrolytes are minerals that help balance the amount of water in our body and guarantee appropriate muscle and nerve function. Without enough electrolytes, we can feel weak and worn out. Consuming drinks that contain electrolytes can help maintain this balance.
High Activity Levels
Highly active individuals or operating in hot environments require more than just water. They need to renew both fluids and electrolytes to prevent dehydration. This is why workers in fields like building and construction typically drink electrolyte-rich beverages.
Medical Conditions
Particular medical conditions can significantly affect hydration levels, making paying additional attention to their fluid intake crucial. One such condition is diabetes. People with diabetes frequently experience increased urination as the body tries to get rid of excess glucose through urine. This frequent urination can result in significant fluid loss, necessitating more fluids to stay adequately hydrated. Given the loss of electrolytes and other nutrients during the procedure, more than water is needed.
Furthermore, various medications can increase fluid loss or alter the body’s ability to retain fluids. Diuretics, typically prescribed for conditions like hypertension and heart disease, are a prime example. These medications increase urine production, resulting in a greater risk of dehydration. Other drugs, such as certain antidepressants and antihistamines, can also have diuretic effects or trigger dry mouth, affecting hydration levels more.
For individuals with such medical conditions, simply drinking water might not preserve ideal hydration. They may need to take in electrolyte-rich fluids or consider hydration techniques like IV treatment, which can quickly replenish lost fluids and vital nutrients. Proper hydration management is essential for preserving total health and preventing issues associated with these conditions.
Hydration IV Treatment
One effective way to guarantee proper hydration is through hydration IV treatments. This method involves providing fluids straight into the bloodstream through an IV drip. Hydration IVs can consist of water, electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals. Here are some advantages of IV hydration:
Quick Rehydration
Due to their direct delivery into the bloodstream, the body can absorb the fluids rapidly. This makes IV hydration an efficient method of rehydration, especially in cases of serious dehydration.
Improved Absorption
Drinking water and other fluids implies they must first pass through the digestive system for absorption. IV hydration allows the fluids to bypass the digestive system and absorb more efficiently, ensuring that the body gets the hydration it needs faster.
Customizable Treatments
IV hydration treatments can be customized to satisfy individual requirements. For example, athletes may require a different mix of electrolytes and vitamins than somebody recovering from a health problem. Clinics using hydration IV services can tailor treatments to offer the best outcomes.
When to Think About IV Hydration
Hydration IV treatment can be advantageous in a variety of situations.
After an intense workout: After a marathon, a long walk, or a heavy workout session, IV hydration can help renew lost fluids and electrolytes quickly.
Hangovers: After a night of drinking, an IV hydration session can help reduce hangover symptoms by rehydrating the body and restoring lost nutrients.
Illness Healing: IV treatment can help accelerate healing when recovering from diseases that cause dehydration, such as the flu or food poisoning.
Regular IV hydration sessions can benefit people with chronic conditions that affect hydration levels, such as Crohn’s disease or cystic fibrosis.
Choosing the Right Hydration Approach
While IV hydration has many benefits, it is optional for some. Most people can maintain appropriate hydration with a well-balanced diet plan and regular fluid intake. Here are some pointers to help you stay hydrated:
Drink regularly: Instead of drinking large quantities simultaneously, sip water throughout the day.
Consume Hydrating Foods: Fruits and vegetables, such as cucumbers, oranges, and watermelon, have a high water content.
Monitor Your Urine: Light yellow urine typically indicates proper hydration, while dark yellow or amber-colored urine can indicate dehydration.
Change for Activity and Weather Conditions: Increase fluid consumption during heat or physical activity.
Correct hydration is essential for our health and well-being. While water is important, it might only sometimes suffice. Electrolytes are vital for maintaining hydration, especially during intense physical activity or health problems. Hydration IV therapy uses a quick and reliable way to rehydrate and renew lost nutrients. By understanding our hydration needs and selecting the best techniques, we can ensure that we stay healthy and hydrated daily.
